1st Annual Roots & Wings Event
Author and illustrator Brian Selznick was honored by the East Brunswick Library Foundation at the 1st annual Roots & Wings event on May 28, 2015. In turn, he honored the library and East Brunswick with a warm, thrilling, and mesmerizing presentation. He shared his memories and experiences of growing up and coming of age as a writer, raconteur, and artist in the schools and the library of his beloved hometown. Brian came equipped with innumerable slides, videos, and anecdotes, each one funnier and more enlightening than the one before. The Foundation could not have picked a more deserving and rewarding honoree. Brian's storytelling talents articulated why supporting the Library Foundation is important; the library nurtures and supports generations of creativity and curiosity in East Brunswick. The only problem is that the Foundation set quite a high bar for the next native son or daughter to be recognized. I am certain all of us who were there said, "I'm so glad I attended!" I encourage residents to stay tuned for information about the next Roots & Wings event in 2016 so you will not have to say, "I'm sorry I missed it!"
